Origami: A Blend of Sculpture and Mathematics

This activity uses  banners with information and images about  the work of Demaine, the world’s top computational origami theorist, who has created aseries of sculptures by folding concentric squares into square pieces of paper, alternating mountain and valley, and folding the diagonals. The banners could  have embedded videos and virtual reality to enrich participants` experience.

This activity immerses participants in an in death Smithsonian digital-first experience. To set the tune for the program, display multimedia banners on the walls with information, embedded videos, links, and short texts about The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. You may use  Aurasma and Quick Readers to add VR components to enrich the experience. Have on the banner embedded videos of  artwork and animals talking about who/what they are, why they are in the museums, and where participants can find them.

Your mission this week:

Show us something you've made using a toilet paper tube. Paper towel tubes and tubes from aluminum foil or cling wrap are also fair game. Your hack can use other materials, of course, but the cardboard tube should be the defining element. Send us pictures and a description of your hack and feel free to annotate your photos if you need to. And don't be afraid to get creative!
